Your Trade Union and Socialist Candidate: A Real Alternative for Working People

Rail Workers Union backs Karen

Posted by suemcpherson99 on April 25, 2010

Karen represents a credible alternative and a focal point for working class people. It is to be hoped that now, and in the future, people will come to realise that there is an alternative to an economy based on war and the free market. That there is an alternative to privatisation and anti trade union legislation.

After 13 years of betrayal by “New Labour” working people are deserting the polls. People like Karen can help to turn this round by offering that credible alternative.

Yours in solidarity,  North West Organiser, John MacDonald, RMT

BA Cabin Crew say thanks!

Posted by suemcpherson99 on April 24, 2010

The many donations like yours being received are a tremendous boost to our members who are suffering financial hardship following the company’s vindictive actions in stopping their pay for the whole duration of scheduled roosters and not just those three days they were actually on strike, leading to an effective lock out of our members.

It is a tribute to the solidarity and unity of working people that so many like yousrelf are willing to assist in this very practice way and we thank you so much on behalf of our members, our branch and our union.

Nahella Ashraf for Rusholme!

Posted by suemcpherson99 on April 24, 2010

I am pleased to be standing again in the election for the Rusholme ward.

To the problems of war, racism, and poverty, we now face further attacks – big cuts in services, more job losses, and pay cuts.  And anti-Muslims racism has now got even worst.

This year I have helped to free some of the Muslim youth, jailed for no reason after last years demonstration for Gaza.  Muslims must be free to campaign in support for Gaza, against the war or the EDL without police intimidation.

I have been proud to have protested with thousands against the racists in Bolton and Manchester, and I took the petitions collected across the city calling for Troops Out of Afghanistan to 10 Downing St. with Military Families Against the War.

I am standing as a candidate in the Rusholme Ward for the Council as part of  Trades Unionist and Socialist Coalition in order to be part of a much wider group fighting for the better world we all need.

Fire Brigades Union endorses Karen Reissmann

Posted by suemcpherson99 on April 24, 2010

“When all the major political parties are clear that the solution to the ‘world economic’ problems are savage cuts in the UK public sector Karen Reissman and the Trades Unionist and Socialist Coalition are quite clear in their opposition to this ‘more of the same medicine’.

Karen has the courage to stand up for what she believes in……whether standing on picket lines with striking firefighters or speaking up in defence of a properly resourced National Health Service whilst opposing those who would cut and/or privatize the same.

She is on record as supporting Public ownership of Public services and taking back privatized services back into public ownership and democratic control, free education for all under local authority control, and investment in the protection of our environment….policies which the Fire Brigades Union and its members wholeheartedly support.”

Kev Brown

Regional Secretary, Fire Brigades Union

Mark Serwotka sends message to Karen Reissmann

Posted by suemcpherson99 on April 18, 2010

“With the three main parties all arguing for the same policies: public sector cuts, privatisation and pay freezes, it is more vital than ever that we have candidates like Karen Reissmann to speak up in favour of public services.”

“For speaking out against the effects of privatisation on public services, Karen was sacked from the NHS two years ago. Now she will be speaking for the people of Manchester Gorton who oppose the cross-party consensus that is turning so many people away from the mainstream parties and politics in general. Good luck with your campaign and solidarity.

Karen Reissmann for Manchester Gorton

Posted by suemcpherson99 on April 6, 2010

I am standing in this election because I see an election where all three parties call for massive cuts in our public services. The only debate for them seems to be how quickly they should start.

It was the bankers and the markets that got us into this mess. If money needs to be saved then cut Trident’s replacement, cut ID cards, stop the bloody war in Afghanistan – all of which cost billions. Stop scape-goating everyone from single parents, the unemployed, pensioners, asylum seekers, Muslims. None of them caused this financial crisis. It’s the bankers who should pay.

I have been a nurse and a trade union activist in Manchester for 28 years. Two years ago I spoke out against cuts and privatisation in the NHS. Despite a massive strike I was sacked. Thanks to everyone, I am now back in the NHS.
